Phoenix International Announces Small Form Factor Rugged Network Attached Storage File Server With Removable Solid-state Disks for Manned/Unmanned Vehicles

Phoenix International Systems, proven pioneer in state-of-the-art data storage technology providing rugged and reliable COTS data storage solutions, today introduced the Phalanx II Rugged Network Attached Storage (NAS) file server with removable Solid State Disks. The new product is being introduced at AFCEA West 2018.

The Phalanx II is SWaP optimized and provides high performance, high capacity and secure data storage for Unmanned Aerial, Underwater and Surface Vehicles (UAVs, UUVs and USVs) and Manned Airborne ISR applications. This small form factor NAS weighs less than eight pounds, provides up to 16TB of storage capacity with two Solid State Disks (SSDs) and supports RAID 0 (mirroring) and RAID 1 (stripping). System configuration and management is provided via a convenient web based GUI or CLI.

The Phalanx II houses two Removable Media Modules (RMMs) which can be quickly removed to off load data and declassify the system. The RMMs can then be moved to separate locations and plugged into another Phalanx II NAS (or compatible ground station) on any other network. When used in conjunction with a network switch, the Phalanx II can communicate with any other network enabled device to store and retrieve data. This eliminates the need for separate direct attached storage devices for each computer or workstation in a network centric environment.

Data security is a key component to any mass storage application and the Phalanx II addresses this with optional support for AES-256 hardware and file level encryption, FIPS140-2 and hardware and/or software triggered Data Elimination.

The Phalanx II allows networked devices to share and store data using all common network services: NFS (V3/V4), SMB/CIFS, FTP, TFTP, RSYNC and SSH. It supports a variety of network based file systems that allow multiple hosts to share and store information. Network connections are provided through four load balanced Gigabit Ethernet ports, and it can support dual optical (or copper) 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports for low EMI susceptibility.

The new product is being introduced at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2017.

The cigar box sized (82mm x 215mm x 226.5mm) Phalanx II is SWaP optimized and provides high performance, high capacity and secure data storage for Unmanned Aerial and Underwater Vehicles (UAVs, UUVs) and airborne ISR applications. This small form factor NAS weighs less than six lbs, provides up to 16TB of storage capacity with two Solid State Disks (SSDs) and supports RAID 0 (mirroring) and RAID 1 (stripping). Phoenix International Systems today unveiled its industry leading 3.2 terabyte capacity VP1-250-eSSD 3U Open VPX NVM Express (NVMe) Solid State Disk data storage module at AFCEA/USNI West 2017 Conference and Exposition.

NVM Express (NVMe) is an industry-standard registered interface designed to accelerate the performance of nonvolatile PCI Express (PCIe) SSDs. The NVMe protocol was established in collaboration by server industry leaders to standardize a scalable PCIe interface, making it easier for designers to unlock the full potential of PCIe. Featuring a storage capacity of 50TB+, the lightning fast RPC24 4004 series includes two easily removable magazines containing up to twelve solid state disk or hard disk drives, each housed in rugged 2U (3.5”) panel height, 19.5” deep enclosure. Incorporating aluminum and steel in its rugged construction, it series weighs only 51 lbs with a full complement of 24 SSDs, is less than 20” deep and is certified to military specifications MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461E.

Phoenix International’s incorporated SimulCache technology leverages redundant RAID controllers, thus eliminating the performance degradation associated with conventional cache mirroring. Phoenix International Unveils 1 Terabyte Capacity VP1-250-SSDC 3U Solid State Disk VPX Storage Module

Phoenix International Systems, Inc., today unveiled its industry leading 1 terabyte capacity VP1-250-SSDC 3U Solid State Disk VPX storage module at AFCEA/USNI West 2014 Conference and Exposition.

PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL INTRODUCES 3U VPX 1 Terabyte SLC Solid State Disk Module

The VP1-250-SSDC is a bootable 3U Conduction-cooled VPX drive storage module with REDI (VITA 48) covers supporting an operating temperature range of -40° to +85° C. The VP1-250-SSDC connects directly to the CPU via SATA signals or by means of PCI Express signals through an on-board controller. The use of Single Level Cell (SLC) NAND flash combined with our advanced flash management provides write endurance of greater than 27 years with 10 daily program/erase cycles of the entire drive.

Optionally includes the Data Encryption function, providing 256-bit AES ECB/CBC strength, NIST, CSE and FIPS 140-2 validated encryption solution. With a number of ways to support Key Management, Phoenix offers deployment flexibility with the ability to tailor the implementation to the specific requirements. The encryption engine is hardware based, hence eliminates the need and the risk of using software components.

Also available is a Data Elimination function: FAST ERASE and PURGE. FAST ERASE eliminates the data from all physical media locations by performing a single erase. PURGE eliminates both the data and the data remnants that could otherwise enable user data recovery in the lab. PURGE requires multiple erase and overwrites, and in some cases includes verification, as governed by different standards.

It provides up to eight host ports of 8Gb Fibre Channel to SAS or SATA devices over a 12Gb SAS internal bus.

Incorporating aluminum and steel in its rugged construction, the RPC24 4000 series weighs only 51 lbs with a full complement of 24 SSDs, is less than 20” deep and is certified to military specifications MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461E.
