Phoenix International Announces Small Form Factor Rugged Network Attached Storage File Server With Removable Solid-state Disks for Manned/Unmanned Vehicles

San Diego, CA February 6, 2018

Phoenix International Systems, proven pioneer in state-of-the-art data storage technology providing rugged and reliable COTS data storage solutions, today introduced the Phalanx II Rugged Network Attached Storage (NAS) file server with removable Solid State Disks. The new product is being introduced at AFCEA West 2018.

The Phalanx II is SWaP optimized and provides high performance, high capacity and secure data storage for Unmanned Aerial, Underwater and Surface Vehicles (UAVs, UUVs and USVs) and Manned Airborne ISR applications. This small form factor NAS weighs less than eight pounds, provides up to 16TB of storage capacity with two Solid State Disks (SSDs) and supports RAID 0 (mirroring) and RAID 1 (stripping). System configuration and management is provided via a convenient web based GUI or CLI.

The Phalanx II houses two Removable Media Modules (RMMs) which can be quickly removed to off load data and declassify the system. The RMMs can then be moved to separate locations and plugged into another Phalanx II NAS (or compatible ground station) on any other network. When used in conjunction with a network switch, the Phalanx II can communicate with any other network enabled device to store and retrieve data. This eliminates the need for separate direct attached storage devices for each computer or workstation in a network centric environment.

Data security is a key component to any mass storage application and the Phalanx II addresses this with optional support for AES-256 hardware and file level encryption, FIPS140-2 and hardware and/or software triggered Data Elimination.

The Phalanx II allows networked devices to share and store data using all common network services: NFS (V3/V4), SMB/CIFS, FTP, TFTP, RSYNC and SSH. It supports a variety of network based file systems that allow multiple hosts to share and store information. Network connections are provided through four load balanced Gigabit Ethernet ports, and it can support dual optical (or copper) 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports for low EMI susceptibility.

Major Features of the Phoenix International Phalanx II NAS:

– MLC or SLC Solid State Disk devices

– Intel Core i7 CPU

– Video: 1x VGA, 2x or 3x DVI Video Output

– I/O: 5x GigE, 2x 10GigE, USB 2/3, Serial (RS232/422)

– Operational temperature from -40° to +71°C

– Optional AES 256 hardware and file level encryption

– MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-704F/1275D

Phoenix International has been designing and building Rugged data storage systems for any application – from Multi-Terabyte Fibre Channel RAID, Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) configurations to conduction cooled plug-in VPX and VME solid state disk storage modules – since 1993.

Based in Orange, California, Phoenix International is an AS9100 Rev D/ISO 9001:2015 Certified Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).
