PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES HIGH-CAPACITY EDGE DATA STORAGE SOLUTION

National Harbor, MD August 2, 2021

Phoenix International Systems, Inc., proven pioneer in state-of-the art data storage technology providing rugged and reliable COTS data storage solutions, today introduced their all flash SSD RPC24-NAS network file server, a high-capacity, high performance edge storage solution that enables users to aggregate, store, move and activate their data.  The RPC24-NAS targets mobile (Air-Sea-Ground) and fixed Expeditionary environments with its MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F certified design. The new system was introduced at Sea-Air-Space 2021.

Edge computing can mean many different things, but for military users, the key is flexible, modular, and rugged systems that are proven and reliable in harsh tactical land, maritime, and airborne environments. The need for these rugged systems is paired with exponential growth in available data from a multitude of sensors and sources, structured and unstructured, and the need of the warfighter to make decisions faster.  The RPC24- NAS houses two removable magazines with up to 12 SSDs each which can be quickly removed to off load data.  The magazines can then be moved to separate locations and plugged into another RPC24 on any other network for further analysis.

Data security is a key component to any edge storage system and the RPC24-NAS addresses this with optional support for AES-256 hardware and file level encryption, FIPS140-2 validation and hardware and/or software triggered Secure Erase and Data Elimination.

The RPC24-NAS allows networked devices to share and store data using all common network services.  It supports a variety of network based file systems that allow multiple hosts to share and store information. Network connections are provided through load balanced Ethernet ports, available from Gigabit to 100 Gigabit, and can support multiple optical (or copper) Ethernet ports for low EMI susceptibility.

For tactical edge rugged data storage capabilities, the key is being able to combine the potential of the large commercial market (which has advanced significantly beyond government capabilities due to huge investments), and get it into the form required to support warfighter environments. Phoenix International achieves this with its design and manufacture of our high-performance RPC24-NAS.  For military and other customers operating in harsh environments this ensures we provide rugged edge data storage capability on par with advanced commercial systems.

Phoenix International has been designing and building Rugged data storage systems for any application – from Multi-Terabyte Fibre Channel RAID, Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) configurations to conduction cooled plug-in VPX and VME solid state disk storage modules – since 1993.

PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL INTRODUCES FIPS140-2 VALIDATED NVMe OPEN VPX SOLID STATE DISK DATA STORAGE MODULE

San Diego, CA Mar 2, 2020

Phoenix International Systems today unveiled industry’s first FIPS 140-2 validated encryption Open VPX NVM Express (NVMe) Solid State Disk data storage module at AFCEA/USNI West 2020 Conference and Exposition.

The VP1-250-eSSDC is a VITA 48/REDI conduction cooled 3U VPX SSD storage module that delivers extremely high performance. Designed from the ground up to remove legacy layers of hard drive interfaces such as SATA and SAS, it takes full advantage of the speed and parallelism of solid state nonvolatile memory.  Streamlined efficient queuing protocol combined with an optimized command set register interface enables low latency and high performance.  Data is delivered fast and efficiently with minimal burden on the host CPU.  The VP1-250-eSSDC supports TCG compliant AES-256 and FIPS140-2 validated encryption as well as military grade data elimination.

NVM Express (NVMe) is an industry-standard registered interface designed to accelerate the performance of nonvolatile PCI Express (PCIe) SSDs. The NVMe protocol was established in collaboration by server industry leaders to standardize a scalable PCIe interface, making it easier for designers to unlock the full potential of PCIe.  NVMe provides opportunities for increased data throughput and reduced latency all while reducing the number of drives needed — both now and in the future.  Adoption of this industry standard is driven by a strong consortium of storage technology providers and a robust ecosystem of drivers across multiple operating systems.

Major Features of the VP1-250-eSSDC Data Storage Module:

  • Out-of-the-box software, drivers and manageability enable easy adoption and storage interoperability
  • Capacities to 15TB
  • Optimized register interface and command set lowers latency
  • Performance:

Sequential 128KB read: 1.2 GB/s

Sequential 128KB write: 1.2 GB/s

  • Operating shock: 1000G/1ms
  • Operating vibration: 10 GRMS 5–800Hz @ 30 min/axis
  • Advanced flash management for enhanced reliability and durability
  • Streamlined protocol with efficient queuing mechanism to scale for multi-core CPUs
  • 1,000,000 hours MTBF
  • Made in USA
